Doritos Flavored Pretzels Cheesy Snack Recipe (2024)

Doritos flavored pretzels and an easy snack that’s cheesy and crunchy. Use your favorite popcorn topping to make this semi-homemade recipe.

These Doritos-flavored pretzels are a delicious snack for after school or a weekend party. The simple, cheesy goodness of Doritos tortilla chips goes perfectly on crunchy pretzels. This homemade recipe has just the right amount of Tex-Mex taco seasoning spice to appeal to snack lovers of all ages.

I think I just invented the best snack food. It’s kind of like Doritos. And kind of like Chex mix. And kind of like taco-flavored something.

I made the first batch in about 40 minutes. Although the powdered cheese is something you probably don’t just keep on hand (or maybe you do – it’s great on popcorn!), the other ingredients are pretty basic staples.I found this Stonemill Essentials nacho cheddar seasoning at Aldi and was happy to see that the golden orange color was entirely natural.

Pretzel tips and variations

Are these pretzels spicy?

These pretzels are just a bit spicy, like tacos or another snack mix would be. If your kids have a strong aversion to anything remotely spicy, cut back on the garlic powder and chili powder just a bit.

Can I make them even more cheesy?

If they aren’t cheesy enough for your liking, feel free to add more cheese powder. I think you could double the cheese and the only side effect would be cheesy fingers.

Where can I get powdered cheese?

I found it at Aldi in the baking section. It might be regional or seasonal.

Check any grocery store near the popcorn. Order Kernel Season’s nacho cheddar and other flavors on Amazon.com

Can I make this recipe with other non-cheesy flavors?

I haven’t tried it, but any seasoning combo should work with pretzels and butter.

Can I cook these in the air fryer?

I don’t have an air fryer, so I haven’t tested it myself. A reader says “This looked yummy so I altered it a little bit by cooking these at 250 for 15 minutes in the air fryer shaking halfway and towards the end.”

How to make Doritos flavored pretzels

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon each: chili powder, paprika, garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon powdered cheese
  • 6 cups mini pretzel twists

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large pot on the stove, melt the butter and turn off the heat.

Note: You don’t have to melt the butter on the stove, but I have found that my stockpot is great for melting butter and then adding everything else I need without worrying about stuff flying out while I stir. Plus, then I only need to wash one thing. Feel free to melt butter in the microwave and use a large mixing bowl to combine.

Combine the chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and powdered cheese, and add to the butter all at once. Stir to combine.

Let the pretzels cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes and then transfer them to a bowl or another storage container. Definitely don’t try to eat them off the tray straight out of the oven, even if you’re having a hard time resisting their glorious smell.
